The American Clean Power Association (ACP) released its 2024 Offshore Wind Market Report, forecasting a $65 billion investment in U.S. offshore wind projects by 2030, which will create 56,000 jobs. With 12 gigawatts (GW) of projects already in the works and 4 GW under construction, the offshore wind industry is rapidly growing. The U.S. has 37 leases for offshore wind, totaling 56 GW of potential energy, enough to power 22 million homes. Analysts expect 14 GW of offshore wind to be up and running by 2030, 30 GW by 2033, and 40 GW by 2035.
The report also highlights the economic boost from offshore wind, especially for U.S. shipbuilding, ports, and the supply chain. More than 40 new vessels, including 28 Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) and seven Service Operation Vessels (SOV), are being built to support the industry. In 2023 alone, a record $3 billion was committed to supply chain investments, with overall infrastructure investments now surpassing $9 billion. ACP Chief Policy Officer Frank Macchiarola noted that tapping into America’s offshore wind resources will drive economic growth, create jobs, and strengthen energy security while reducing pollution.
