A bill to speed up the transition to cleaner electric school buses is now on Gov. Phil Murphy’s desk. The bill allocates $45 million in new funding over three years. But a full transition from dirty diesel-powered vehicles could still take a while.
The legislation, approved by the Senate on Thursday in a 23-15 vote, would nearly double the investment made by the state over the last several years, a step advocated by many environmental groups as reducing pollution contributing to climate change.
