Two programs led by the California Air Resources Board for Sustainable and Equitable Transportation Planning benefit underserved communities, but they still have room for improvement, a UC Berkeley study reported last week.
Researchers Jose Richard Aviles, Eli Moore and Ramon Quintero at the UC Berkeley Othering & Belonging Institute, along with UC Davis’ Institute of Transportation Studies, concluded that, while the programs have generally helped affected communities with understanding and acting on transportation needs, there are persistent barriers to equitably distributing funding and facilitating community-led projects.
