New Jersey has opened its fourth round of applications for offshore wind development, aiming to award up to 4 GW of new energy capacity. The application period runs from April 30 to July 10, 2024. This round seeks to award between 1.2 GW and 4 GW of offshore wind power, aiming to boost competition, economic growth, and climate action at minimal cost and risk to residents.
Governor Phil Murphy highlighted the state’s commitment to building a strong offshore wind industry that provides significant economic and environmental benefits. NJBPU President Christine Guhl-Sadovy noted the effort’s importance in fighting climate change and making New Jersey a leader in offshore wind.
Economic growth is a major focus of this initiative. The previous round, awarded on January 24, 2024, included the 1,342 MW Attentive Energy Two project and the 2,400 MW Leading Light Wind project. These projects are expected to bring $6.8 billion in economic benefits and create about 4,350 new jobs in construction, maintenance, and related industries. This demonstrates New Jersey’s commitment to using offshore wind development as a driver of economic prosperity.
