Car drivers may never think about public transportation. They go pretty much anywhere at any time and usually find affordable parking.

But, private cars aren’t an efficient or equitable way to move people around. Car-centric systems disadvantage children and youth, people who can’t afford a car, those with health conditions and disabilities and folks who just don’t want to drive.

That’s why, every year, La Crosse joins the national Labor Network for Sustainability in recognizing Transit Equity Days. From Jan. 29 through Feb. 4, TED events will help us consider our transportation system — what’s fair and equitable, what’s sustainable, what’s the best use of public space and money and how we ensure everyone can access a full life with or without a car.
