The World Experiences the Hottest Summer Ever Recorded

TL/DR –

Y’all, the summer of 2024 just set a new record for making us all feel like we’re living on the sun โ€”Copernicus says it was the hottest in human history. In just three months, we managed to break records for the hottest June, August, and overall summer, making last year’s heatwaves look like a spring breeze. Looks like Mother Earth’s temperature is rising faster than my Uber surge price on a Friday night.

Record-Breaking Heat: Summer 2024

The summer of 2024 was the hottest on record, according to the EUโ€™s climate monitor. This continues a worrying trend that’s pushing our planet towards the hottest year ever.

The EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) reported that the global average temperature for the Northern Hemisphere’s June-to-August period hit a new high.

This summer’s temps were 0.69ยฐC above the 1991-2020 average, beating last summer’s record of 0.66ยฐC. Samantha Burgess, C3S deputy director, noted we’ve seen the hottest June, August, day, and summer on record in just three months.
